For those of you who do not know what Divali is. It's a Hindu holiday, Festival of Lights. The Goddness of Lakshmi. I am not Hindu, but my in- Laws are. All of my children have Hindu middle names. I wanted to give them a piece of there nationality from there grandparents.
This holiday comes at the darkest time of the year. If you go out on Tuesday night you will notice how dark it is. I never took note of if till I learned about this holiday.
Here is a small clip from the article in the paper the other day.
"Whether we're in big countries or on small islands, Divali is an inherent part of our nationality and culture."
Coming at the darkest time of the year, Divali represents a Festival of Lights, much like Hanukkah, the Jewish wintertime festival.
The South Florida Hindu Temple will celebrate Sunday, with fireworks and devotion to the goddess Lakshmi. On Nov. 1, the temple will present Annakut, an offering meaning "Mountain of Food."
The main part of Divali is home, where families bathe a small statue of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, with milk and water.
My Mother- in - Law spends the day cooking and making sweets for the eveing. The kids come to the house around 5:30 and get's ready to start putting the lights throughout the house. Every room needs the light- bedroom, kitchen, living room, patio, front of the house, and of course the shrine. Its so pretty when you look through the house small lights of flames.
Come Tuesday I will take some pictures and a video for all of you to see how it looks. You will come to understand how great this Holiday is!
