I have a Rant!

Last night I attended our PTA meeting. As a parent you know how this goes, PTA is to help supplement the school when it comes to funds.

School fundraisers, school pictures, school night activies are all runned by the PTA. While at the meeting the prinicpal was going over her budget she has to turn in on friday for next year. It wasn't looking so good. She needs to cut $400,000 from her budget. 95% of the budget is SALARY!

So what does that tell you???? That tells me that next year we will be losing teachers, our classes will be oversized. When you have an oversized class room how does a student learn properly?

Its funny how our govnerment tells us that the school shouldn't be affected when it comes to budget, that taxes that went up should work for the school, but yet here we are with more budget cuts.

On top of all that, the Florida Lottery is also suppose to give to schools, I mean when they advertise on the radio or TV that's one of there biggest thing they push. But do you want to know something, its a croack!! They only give to the A+ schools!! Tamarac Elementary is a A school, yet they don't see anything from the lotto since they don't have the + behind them. Tell me, how many schools have the +, with budget cuts its harder for the teachers to teach properly!!!

It kills me that we spin this wheel over and over again. These kids are our future!!! Why do we keep taking it away from them?

I wish I had an extra 400 grand sitting around, I really do!!! Something needs to be done!!! Just saying!

It's happening all over the country.  You can't trust what you hear anymore from polticians who say they are going to do something.  They never follow through. Start calling your State reps and Senators and give them an earful.  Do it often

Tony That's exactly what we discussed last night! They are not going to be happy with all the phone calls they are going to get!

You go, girl! I have three sons in public schools in a small mountain town that thrives on summer tourism. Because it is tough to have working families purchase a home and live in the school district, we are shrinking and funding is challenging!

Jeannette--It is happening in our district as well. In fact across Minnesota. Obviously, from you post, across the country. The sad thing is some of the newest teachers with the brightest minds and most innovative ideas are cut first due to lack of tenure. Sad all the way around.

Not only that. There is a school being built maybe about a mile or two west of Tamarac Elementary. Yet we can't even fund the schools we currently have open!

What gives? There is a private school that will be closing as well, which is also about a mile from the school.

The properties of this government is so screwed up, they don't know there heads from there a$$. If you get my point!

Lisa I also here where you are coming from. You rely on something and when its not there, everyone is affected!

It is happening here too. Budget cuts are here and some staff and teachers are already been told they will not be coming back. ~Rita

The crisis is also hitting us in Arizona.  Our biggest gripe is all day Kindergarten is (suppose) to be cut next year.  Alot of parents rely on all day Kindergarten, this cuts the parents cost in half, no more daycare expense.  What irritates me is Arizona is promoting jobs for teachers and cutting them in the same sentence.

Difficult times for sure.  It is sad, but it will call you to action and I believe the solutions will be found in parents like you.  They are lucky to have you there and that you'll fight for what you can for the children.
